Dentures at Family Practice Dentistry Can Recreate Your Smile
Dentures offer a wide range of benefits for patients missing one or more teeth. First and foremost, they restore your ability to chew properly by filling in gaps where natural teeth once were. Beyond function, dentures also help maintain a natural facial appearance — providing support to the lips and cheeks that helps preserve facial structure. Replacing missing teeth, particularly in the front of the mouth, can also improve speech clarity. Ultimately, dentures help patients feel more confident and comfortable, giving self-esteem a meaningful boost.
Types of Dentures
Complete dentures typically come in two forms: conventional and immediate.
Conventional dentures are placed after the gum tissue has had time to heal following tooth extraction, generally taking about 8 to 12 weeks before they’re ready to be fitted.
Immediate dentures, on the other hand, are placed right after teeth are extracted, allowing patients to avoid going without teeth during the healing period. However, because gums and bone naturally shift and shrink over time, immediate dentures often require more frequent adjustments to maintain a proper fit throughout healing. For this reason, they’re typically viewed as a temporary solution until conventional dentures can be made.
